Some insurance providers will reimburse the cost of sessions based on the extent of their coverage. At Peace of Mind, client’s are provided with an invoice to submit should their plan reimburse. Plans and providers use different language and titles to list the types of professionals they cover. This is a brief outline of the differences…
Psychiatrist: The role of a Psychiatrist is assessment and diagnosis, or lack thereof. They are also in a position to prescribe and monitor medication. It is rare that a psychiatrist will provide ‘talk therapy’ as they take on a more clinical diagnostic role.
Psychologist: The role of a Psychologist is also assessment and diagnosis, or lack thereof. Medication can be recommended and suggestions forwarded back to the family Doctor. Some Psychologists offer talk therapy as well as assessment / diagnosis.
Psychotherapist: The role of a Psychotherapist is to provide clinical psycho-therapeutic interventions within the framework of talk therapy, but they do not provide a diagnosis / lack thereof. Psychotherapists can make recommendations to see a Psychiatrist or Psychologist should they feel assessment would be beneficial. Registered Psychotherapists are often covered by insurance providers.
Social Worker: A Registered Social Worker provides talk therapy among many other roles, but do not diagnose or medicate. Social Workers who are registered are often covered by insurance providers.
If you are a registered business owner living in South Simcoe County, you and your family members could be approved for five to ten sessions without cost.
Without insurance coverage, there are some other options. Many of these options are very low to no cost, but may involve some waiting.
